Yugawara Town was born on April 1, 1955, by merging two towns and one village (Yugawara Town, Yoshihama Town and Fukuura Village) in Kanagawa Prefecture. On April 1, 2015, 60th anniversary of the municipal merger was celebrated, and as a milestone, a monument was made by elementary and junior high school students in Yugawara Town, who are responsible for the future of Yugawara Town. It is a ceramic relief with the columns, which were twisted and marked with their hands by approximately 1,500 elementary and junior high school students in the town.

Born in Yokohama in 1954. Completed the graduate school of architecture, the University of Tokyo. After working as a visiting researcher at Columbia University, he established and has presided over Kengo Kuma and Associates. Currently, Professor at the graduate school, the University of Tokyo (architecture).Proposes constructions that open up new relationships between nature, technology and human beings. With every material including Japanese paper, stone, bamboo, soil, plastic and shape memory alloy, he is developing original works that can not fit in the frame of common sense.

Every one is diverse, but they are harmonious as a whole. It becomes the ultimate public art as the aim of “harmony of diversity.” It will be an encouragement for the children that the work they made will stay here. (In the unveiling ceremony)
