Dyeing and Weaving Craftman (Ryukyu Bingata)
Born in 1936 in Ishigaki Island. Designated as a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property "Bingata" (a living national treasure) in 1996.Studied under Eiki Shiroma, who is the 14th representative at Shiroma Family, the head of Ryukyu Bingata. Even after mastering the traditional Bingata technique, he strives to refine his technique while repeatedly studying on designs and techniques conveyed by various old dyeing styles.
He is highly evaluated by presenting works fitting for modern sense while making full use of the texture of Okinawan fabric.
For the basis of design, he makes sketches of the things which remain in his mind or attract him, such as the scenery of Okinawa, the scenery of the sea, the flowers blooming in the road. In his design, the flowers in Okinawa are especially used much, and the coloring is brilliant and beautiful also.

Production Notes
This public art work “Yaima, where lives shine” is a “stained glass” made with the original painting by Mr. Yuko Tamanaha, who is from Ishigaki Island, the local, and a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property “Bingata” (a living national treasure). And the thought of “Yaima, where all lives including the sea and mountains shine receiving the strong sunshine, is the island where the visitors can also shine” is expressed with “vivid colors” and “delicate forms” of Bingata which Okinawa has raised.
We hope this stained glass “Yaima, where lives shine” will be a new symbol of the new Ishigaki Airport and be loved with familiality forever while giving relaxation and moisture to everyone going and leaving through the sky entrance of Ishigaki.
