Sorayoka Park, Aso Kumamoto Airport
With the completion of the first stage construction for implovement of Kumamoto Airport Terminal, a ceramics relief “Mountain God on Clouds” were installed, and its original painter and supervisor is Akemi Takatsu, Dyeing Craftsman, who lives in Kumamoto City. She expresses the magnificent view of Mt. Aso which is also a symbol of Kyushu in a bright and energetic way. Komezuka floating in the sea of clouds and Aso mountains such as Nekodake, Takadake and Nakadake spread in front of you. The entrance of Kumamoto Airport is decorated with a powerful ceramic relief and it entertains the visitors.
By making use of traditional Japanese pottery techniques in its production, with giving bold unevenness to it, we completed it as a powerful work created with shades and glaze colors.
In October 2024, it was relocated from the former passenger terminal building to Sorayoka Park.
Planning : Japan Traffic Culture Association

Artist's Comments
When viewing Aso mountains floating in the sea of clouds far away from Daikan peak, my heart is filled with awe to nature.
And after the sea of clouds disappears, the bright shape of the mountains spreads to the back of the eyelids like a panorama.
