Printmaker and Picture Book Author
Born in Naha, Okinawa Prefecture, in 1923.He studied painting at the Osaka Municipal Art Institute beginning in 1946. Throughout his career, he consistently explored the themes of Okinawa and peace, portraying the resilience, compassion, and humanity of the Okinawan people. From 1970 onward, he devoted himself primarily to printmaking.
In addition to producing oil paintings and prints, he created numerous picture books, through which he conveyed the culture, history, and natural environment of Okinawa to future generations of children. He passed away in 2017.

Production Notes
It expresses the joy of trading widely with overseas countries and living as a bridge of peace. The figure of a tribute ship (Shinkonsen) sailing the open sea with its sails set and young people beating Eisa drums are powerfully depicted.
*The term “Bankoku Shinryo” in “People of Bankoku Shinryo” means “a bridge to the world.” Since ancient times, the Ryukyu Kingdom engaged in exchanges with Southeast Asian nations through trade and built prosperity, and this spirit continues to be passed down today in its identity as a tourism-oriented prefecture.
