Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1928. After visiting various districts in Mexico, based in Japan, he taught at Tokyo University of the Arts and Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, and energetically developed public art (mural, stained glass, etc) production activities. In his works with unique modeling nuances and sophisticated color senses, even familiar motifs give us surprising and fresh impressions. In addition, he also left a number of achievements as a modeling and production specialist for public art, "translating" original paintings by other authors into murals and so on. Production Notes
Initially, specific motifs such as flowers, grass, and trees were considered for this facility. However, through discussions with the welfare foundation, the concept evolved into a more abstract expression of the “Twilight World”—a state where one gazes vaguely at the work, allowing memories of past times and events to drift into mind. Plaster and ceramic were chosen as the primary materials. A low-gloss white plaster was used for the base wall, while a glossy white glaze was applied to the ceramic plates, creating a subtle contrast in texture. The aim was for the varied shadows, born from the spontaneous “play” of clay molding, to emerge upon the plaster surface. The production of the plaster began with boiling seaweed in drums over wood fires to create a traditional binder. The result is a work where the ceramic and plaster resonate beautifully together.
