Born in Antwerp, Belgium in 1928. After visiting various districts in Mexico, based in Japan, he taught at Tokyo University of the Arts and Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts, and energetically developed public art (mural, stained glass, etc) production activities. In his works with unique modeling nuances and sophisticated color senses, even familiar motifs give us surprising and fresh impressions. In addition, he also left a number of achievements as a modeling and production specialist for public art, "translating" original paintings by other authors into murals and so on. Production Notes
As long as humanity remains at its center, science becomes a tool that promises a secure future. The relief is composed, from left to right, of a cyclone and modern science, modern society in the center, and on the right, the figure of humanity making continuous advancements like hatching from an eggshell.
Tokyo Institute of Technology (currently Institute of Science Tokyo) is a center of science and technology in Japan, as well as a home of the Mingei (folk crafts) movement where figures like Kanjiro Kawai and Shoji Hamada were active. “Ceramics—pottery” is a crystalline fusion of chemistry and art that enriches daily life. This artwork was created based on traditional glazes commonly used in Mingei pottery, such as Oribe glaze and Iron-red glaze. To expand the possibilities of artworks created for public spaces, the Modern Mural Institute (currently CREARE Atami-Yugawara Studio), headed by Louis Fransen, continues its research into new glazes as the crystalline embodiment of chemistry and art.
