Production Notes
This ceramic relief was produced based on an original painting by Ms. KATAOKA Tamako, a Japanese-style painter, under her own supervision.
Ms. KATAOKA is a painter who uses typical Japanese motifs in her bold, vividly-colored paintings. She is particularly known for her paintings featuring Mt. Fuji.
Mr. Louis Fransen, a public artist, added his sculptural sense and glaze expertise to transform the original flat Red Mt. Fuji into this three-dimensional mountain without sacrificing the brilliant, bold image of the original. After this three-dimensional transformation, the Red Mt. Fuji has become even more powerful and brilliant.
It has been installed in the city hall of Fujisawa city in Kanagawa prefecture to welcome citizens.
It was installed in the 1st floor lobby of the Fujisawa City Hall New Building in 1983 and relocated to the Fujisawa City Hall Annex in January 2020.
